Flow Simulation of the Station Saint-Lazare

    The task

    As part of the project to renew the ballasted tracks of the RER A line, this line will be interrupted between the stations of La Défense and Auber in the summer of 2015. In this context and after analysis of the flow-transfer forecast, the RATP spaces of the Saint-Lazare hub will be impacted and certain points of congestion are likely. For this reason, the RATP wanted to have dynamic simulations of passenger journeys, to identify potential points of congestion and to test scenarios designed to improve the flows during the works.


    Methodology

    • Diagnosis and calibration of the PTV Viswalk model in the current situation (summer 2014)
    • Calculation of a reference scenario with the estimated demand for the period of work (summer 2015), without modification of the station infrastructure
    • Formulation of layout recommendations and evaluation of the simulation using the recommended scenario.

    Specifications of the project

    • Modelling of pedestrian journeys on a large-scale (27 SNCF tracks, 4 metro lines, 4 RER E platforms)
    • More than 100,000 passengers/hour at the Saint-Lazare station during the rush hours
    • Integration of passengers who are in the different kind of trains
