PTV Vissim - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

(#VIS19291)

Is there a recommended video codec for recording AVI files?

We recommend the x264 codec, which creates quality AVI videos with smaller file sizes (https://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/). A good alternative is also the xVid codec (https://www.xvid.com/download/).

Video codecs are part of the operating system and therefore PTV Vissim has no influence on which codecs are available. Make sure that the desired codec(s) are installed on your computer before starting PTV Vissim.

Please note that for certain codecs different editions are available for 32-bit and 64-bit. Choose the edition that complies with the application for recording/playback (e.g. 64-bit for PTV Vissim 64-bit). If you are unsure, you may also install both editions.

For successful playback, the codec used for recording also needs to be installed on the computer where it is played back. With current Windows versions this is typically the case. As an alternative for playback, you may use a media player with built-in codecs such as VLC media player.

(Please note that using these codecs and other software is at your own risk and is outside the scope of PTV Support.)
