Increase road safety in your city with PTV Vistad

Collect and evaluate accident data with PTV Vistad

  • Nearly every minute, somebody is hurt or even gets killed in a traffic accident. Therefore, it is important to set clear goals for reducing accidents and also collect data about accidents. This data helps city and infrastructure planners to take suitable measures that increase traffic safety.

With the electronic accident type map PTV Vistad, you collect, validate and analyse traffic accident data. The software visualises accidents on a map in seconds with just one click and nearly any detail information can be used as filter criteria. Even the digital schematic accident sketches can be added directly in the system and visualised appropriately. In addition, the accident data can be filtered geographically and according to numerous characteristics of the accident dataset.

PTV Vistad offers safety experts all necessary functions for local accident investigation. It can also be used to search for thematic accident clusters. These can be pre-sorted and ranked based on the accident severity or vehicle type. Thanks to the standardised data interface, PTV Vistad is well-suited for the cooperation of independent agencies such as the police, communal and state authorities. The central data storage allows nationwide use by police authorities using up-to-date accident data. Individually-configurable rights and roles makes sure every user has access to the data they need to analyse and edit. PTV Vistad also offers an extensive set of print-ready reports which can be used to detect trends quickly and optimally assess the success of measures taken.

Collecting and validating accident data

  • Reliable and consistent accident data form the basis of any road safety work. With PTV Vistad, police and road construction authorities benefit from a tool that provides an optimal central platform for the collection, validation and analysis of accident data.

The software is well-suited for inter-agency work – with a sophisticated rights and roles concept to ensure that dedicated user groups have access to particular data and can process it in accordance with their organisational unit. Importing data into the software is automated and saves you time. Accident data collected via interfaces from police procedural systems can be imported or transmitted in MS Excel, CSV or XML format to be able to forward them to third-party systems. There are also special formats available for the transmission of relevant accident data to installations outside of the police department. Similarly, the collection client enables users to manually create or complete accident data efficiently.

  • The subsequent plausibility check of all stored information guarantees the highest data quality. More than 200 plausibility rules specified by the German Federal Statistics Bureau provide quality managers with precise instructions for data maintenance to ensure the validity of the data collected in PTV Vistad. If, for example, the data is inconsistent, the software automatically ensures that the user is informed about possible error sources and that plausibility violations can be queried systematically. The flexible configuration of the plausibility rules allows you to easily and individually adjust them to the country-specific accident structure. If country-specific guidelines deviate from the plausibility logic or if there are additional factors, such as the expansion of road users to include e-bikes, our experts will assist you to meet the national standards.

Visualising data on the map

  • After the data has passed the plausibility check, you can include the precise accident locations and visualise them. In PTV Vistad, both commercial maps via PTV xServer and external map material such as Bing Maps and OpenStreetMap data via the WMS interface can be used for geo referencing. You can also incorporate country-specific map servers approved for the authorities.

  • With PTV Vistad, you enter the precise specification of the accident location on the digital road map in no time using appropriate address information. After specifying the coordinates, you can also add a sketch that visualises the accident to the alphanumeric accident data set and provide additional background information and notes. For the schematic drawings, the sketch editor makes the creation of accident sketches easy by offering you a selection of objects such as traffic signs and vehicle types via the symbol library.

Analysing statistics and creating reports

  • Detecting trends in accident statistics is one of the strengths of PTV Vistad because the software offers you not only a broad spectrum of standardised reports as PDF, text or MS Excel file. PTV Vistad also enables you to filter the accident events both geographically and according to numerous attributes such as involved parties, age, sex or degree of injury. During the analysis it is therefore also possible to devise targeted measures for increasing safety, especially for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and bicyclists.

  • To be able to compare the figures thoroughly, PTV Vistad offers historical comparative statistics to trace the development of accident figures. The sophisticated rights concept ensures that various user groups can access reports that are for their organisational unit and responsibilities. This way, police departments have a quick access to recurring monthly, quarterly and annual reports on a nationwide level, while aggregated statistics and detailed reports on the bureau or country level are also available.
