Climate protection in the transport sector is not only a (vehicle-related) technical measure. The growth of motorised transport, whether in the form of more frequent or longer journeys, cannot be ignored. This trend has to be reversed by shifting travel demand to means of transport with significantly lower emissions than cars or trucks. For example, the use of non-motorised transport modes would be an environmentally friendly alternative.
Climate protection is an important factor in the context of sustainable transport planning and is reflected in all strategic planning concepts – from integrated development plans and public transport studies to specific studies on bicycle traffic. Demonstrating the effectiveness of strategies and measures based on a valid quantitative assessment plays an important role in decision-making.
From emission calculation at microscopic and macroscopic level to propagation models, PTV Transport Consult offers the models and expertise required to determine their impact and thus makes a significant contribution to climate protection.
What can we do to protect our climate?
Work, education, leisure, logistics – our mobility needs are constantly growing. However, they must not affect climate protection. Future-oriented transport planning is therefore based on a resource-friendly use of different modes of transport and optimised routes in passenger and freight transport.
Managing Director PTV Transport Consult
Public transport will continue to lead the way in tackling climate change. Core aspects include further electrification of the public transport system and better conditions for cyclists created by linking public transport and cycle infrastructure (e.g. high-quality cycling networks). We create appropriate integrated concepts, taking into account multimodality, electromobility and sustainability.
