PTV Group to deliver the real-time traffic prediction module for Abu Dhabi’s new multimodal platform
- PTV Optima as central real-time prediction engine
- AI technology enables traffic forecasts up to 1 hour
- Faster incident response times, and improved traffic flow
Karlsruhe 17 October 2024. PTV Group, part of Umovity, has been selected by ST Engineering Urban Solutions as a subcontractor for Abu Dhabi’s state-of-the-art Multimodal Intelligent Transportation Central Platform. PTV will support the development of this cutting-edge traffic management platform by providing the central real-time traffic prediction engine that powers the platform’s core operations.
This advanced traffic management system represents a significant leap forward in Abu Dhabi's approach to transportation. The integration of multiple subsystems and data sources into a centralized multimodal platform will empower the emirate to implement highly effective multimodal transport strategies through automated response plans. A key module of this transformative system is the real-time short-term traffic prediction solution PTV Optima.
Beyond facilitating live traffic monitoring and incident detection through integration with Abu Dhabi’s adaptive signal control system, PTV Optima employs cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence technology and proven dynamic traffic modeling. This combination allows for calculated traffic flow estimations and forecasts of queues and delays up to 60 minutes in advance. Moreover, the software allows operators to simulate and evaluate various mitigation strategies in a virtual environment, fostering proactive traffic management, faster incident response times, and improved traffic flow across the entire emirate.
Christian U. Haas, CEO of PTV Group, said: "We are proud to have been selected by ST Engineering Urban Solutions as a key partner and look forward to contributing to the long-term success of Abu Dhabi’s traffic management system. As part of Umovity, and in collaboration with our sister company Econolite, we bring extensive ITS expertise, integrating both cutting-edge software and hardware solutions. I anticipate many synergies that will drive the project forward and create even greater momentum."
Starting with road traffic management, the platform will eventually integrate other modes of transport, including rail networks, as the project progresses. This aligns with Abu Dhabi's Transportation Mobility Management Strategy 2030, which aims to enhance the emirate’s public transport system, manage traffic growth, and alleviate road congestion to meet the challenges of projected population growth.
PTV Group is a leading global software company for traffic planning, simulation, and real-time management. With more than 40 years of experience in the field of mobility, the Germany-based company provides software products based on proprietary algorithms ranging from microscopic and macroscopic modeling and simulation of traffic to real-time traffic management, benefiting more than 2,500 cities and municipalities. Bridgepoint acquired a majority stake in the company in January 2022 in order to further accelerate its growth together with shareholder Porsche Automobil Holding SE.
