Karlsruhe 20 January 2026. PTV Group, a leading provider of modeling and simulation software and part of the international brand Umovity, today announced its official membership in the MathWorks Connections Program, a global network that connects innovative companies with a global ecosystem of over 5 million MATLAB® and Simulink® users. This partnership is based on PTV Vissim, the company’s industry-leading multimodal microscopic traffic simulation software. The collaboration empowers users to create realistic, reactive test environments for virtual vehicle development.

MathWorks, the world’s leading developer of mathematical computing software, enables partners to engage with over 100,000 companies across industries, participate in strategic design conversations, and position their offerings as trusted, integrated solutions within a widely adopted engineering and scientific platform.

PTV Vissim interfaces with numerous simulation programs for vehicles, components, and control logics. Through co-simulation, it adds realistic and reactive surrounding traffic to virtual test drives. This allows users, for example, to challenge automated driving logic in dense and dynamic traffic, or to evaluate operating strategies or powertrain layouts during long virtual drives.

The Vissim Connector bridges MATLAB and Simulink with PTV Vissim, enabling the testing of automated driving logic within detailed microscopic traffic simulations. A continuous exchange of speed, position, and other variables between all Vissim vehicles and the system under test in Simulink ensures a smooth interaction in dynamic traffic.

Users can run trajectories from the Driving Scenario Designer app, generate various detection data from simulated sensors, and more. Additionally, Vissim’s COM interface enables scripting for customized simulations and advanced automation. MATLAB and Simulink can directly trigger automated batch simulations based on parameter variations. Furthermore, road scenes developed in RoadRunner can be imported into Vissim via the OpenDRIVE format, expanding integration possibilities for vehicle testing and validation workflows.

“MATLAB and Simulink are established standards in virtual vehicle development around the world”, said Matthias Pfriem, Senior Product Manager for PTV Vissim. “We are very happy about our membership in the Connections Program as an opportunity to highlight the options to connect with PTV Vissim and to point out the added value and enhanced realism that coupling with PTV Vissim can bring to virtual test environments.”
