PTV Group to launch PTV Model2Go TripGenAi: The Next Step in Automated Transport Modeling

Karlsruhe, 9 December 2024. PTV Group, part of the international Umovity brand, is introducing the next stage of automated transport model building with its new AI-driven solution: PTV Model2Go TripGenAI.  This innovative tool automates the trip generation step within macroscopic demand models, turning complex data into actionable insights far more quickly and efficiently than traditional manual approaches.

With Model2Go TripGenAI, trip generation can be calculated with high spatial detail across any planning area. The tool uses AI-driven methods to derive the necessary structural data, such as population and employment figures. It also incorporates insights from mobility surveys like the Mobilität in Deutschland (MiD) to ensure that the resulting patterns closely mirror real-world travel behavior.

Ppopulation data is distributed across a 100-meter grid. A statistical process then creates a digital twin of the population and divides it into detailed demographic groups—ranging from schoolchildren and students to working adults, non-employed individuals, and retirees—each categorized by car availability. This refined segmentation makes it possible to capture diverse mobility needs and activity patterns, whether analyzing school travel or forecasting commuter movements.

Next Stage in the Model2Go product family

TripGenAI completes the next stage in the Model2Go ecosystem, which includes:

• Model2Go Supply – automatically generates multimodal transport network models, covering road, public transport, cycling, and points of interest.
• Model2Go Demand – focuses on demand-side behavioral and socioeconomic components.
• Model2Go TripGenAI – now introduces automated trip generation as the foundation for further modeling stages.

Results from TripGenAI feed directly into PTV Visum, enabling planners to seamlessly continue with destination choice, mode choice, and assignment without manual data preparation.

First rollout in Germany

PTV Model2Go TripGenAI is designed to support public authorities and consultants developing sustainable, data-driven mobility strategies, as well as transport operators and associations aiming to improve accessibility analysis and optimize services. By automating trip generation and standardizing data structures and methodologies, the tool helps users accelerate project delivery, improve reproducibility, and ensure high-quality, consistent results across regions of any size.

The first rollout of PTV Model2Go TripGenAI will take place in Germany, powered by extensive AI-based spatial and demographic data. Expansion to additional European countries is planned for 2026, reinforcing PTV’s vision of a fully integrated Model2Go ecosystem that connects data, demand, and strategic mobility planning through automation.
